T1 Loutraki, Route Description
The starting point is in front of the WAVES club, next to the Club Hotel Casino Loutraki.
The race will start at the beach with a short run to the water. In the starting line, all athletes must stand in a row (one hand distance). The start will be given from the official ITU Technical Delegate, in 3 waves -groups (Age Groups Mass Start, Elite Men, Elite Women).
The athletes are required to leave their last minute gear at the Athletes' Lounge in drop bags, with their number bib attached. The organization committee will take responsibility to deliver the drop bags at the finish area.
The athletes must follow the red line as defined by the five buoys. The rotation will be anticlockwise and all triathletes will do one lap (750m), passing the external part of the buoys. In case of emergency during the swimming leg, there will be lifeguards, race boats, sups and medical staff.
The water temperature is expected to be 23°C - 24°C.
The bike course is 20.1 km long and can be labeled as non technical. It is divided in 3 parts. The first part is the same with the third one (1km) and leads the athletes from the transition zone to bike loops and vice versa. The second one consist the main cycling section of 3 laps, 6.7km each. The tarmac is in good shape and the road will be closed to traffic. You have to be very careful when you overtake a slower athlete, especially on the turns as it is rather dangerous for accidents. The elevation at the starting point is 2 m and at the top of the course is 77m ASL.
The positive and negative vertical climb of the route is 147m.
The course is 5 km long and almost flat with few but not steep inclines (see diagram below). After the first downhill kilometer, the run is along the sea. The most impressive part of the course is the passing over the sinking bridge of the Corinth Canal. There will be an aid station at the beginning of the running course. Supplements such as bottles of water, energy drinks and gels from our official sponsor will be provided to all athletes.
The weather in Loutraki during the fall is quite nice with air temperatures around 20°C and water temperatures between 23°C - 24°C. It is quite possible to enjoy sunny conditions and calm winds in the middle of October.
